Most people can tell you what a wingman is. He’s usually the guy that helps his buddy pick up women. Popularized in movies, TV shows, and even commercials, the wingman’s goal is to make his friend, sometimes referred to as the “Pilot” a la ‘Top Gun’, appear more attractive.

Nowadays, wingmen aren’t the only cohorts in pickup land. Men are learning the advantages of turning to their charming female friends, and even professional wingwomen, to learn how to approach people they’re interested in.

So what makes a good wingwoman? According to an article on DatingThoughts.com, not all wingwomen are created equal and the best will even charge by the hour for their services. Obviously, being a wingwoman is definitely not a job for the shy. She must be willing to approach women or men (depending on the Pilot’s preference) and be able to strike up a conversation. She must also understand what makes people tick and have the skill to gain the trust of the target while also highlighting her friend/client’s best qualities.

However, the article warns that no wingwoman is a miracle worker. If you are a “dive bar rat with no charm yourself, and you’re seeking swanky women,” even an expert may not be able to help your cause.

Good with erections? Build something together. With the lack of extra cashflow, many people are becoming DYI experts instead of hiring a handy man or woman. That Ikea dresser has been in its box for awhile now, why not blast some music and make a party out of assembling it!
It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood…that you’ve always wanted to live in. Plan a day of open houses. It can be as simple as a day to dress-up a little and sample some complimentary hors d’oeuvres. Plus, you never know what can happen when you find yourself alone in the guest bedroom.

How many times have you found yourself bored in a relationship? The article “Wanting More” on DatingThoughts.com, a blog written by a group of 30-something professionals out of San Francisco, hypothesizes that human beings can seem insatiable when it comes to relationships. It suggests that we tend to reject the sameness and order in our world as it disrupts the chaos that creates excitement, which in relationships we perceive as happiness. The author theorizes that at the beginning of a relationship, the only expectation is to have fun. But as the relationship matures, questions, definitions and higher expectations tend to creep into the picture. It’s the moment in time that one person in the relationship realizes he/she needs something better, something different, something MORE to be satisfied once again and that the relationship starts to fall apart. Once one person wants more from the relationship than the other, it inevitably starts dwindling and straying away from the once fresh and exciting affair that it once was. This is what the author calls the “inevitable letdown”.

However, there’s no need to believe that all relationships are a never-ending cycle of excitement and letdown. Many relationships do survive past the “honeymoon period” into something deeper such as moving in, getting a pet together, marriage, and eventually kids. Each step marks a change. But for a relationship to grow and survive, something must always be changing and both involved need to be willing to take that next step.

The article concludes that failed relationships occur for any number of reasons, but many boil down to one person just wanting more than the other. So make sure you know what you want out of your relationship before pushing for more. If you’re too pushy you may find yourself where you started, back at square one.
