Just Desserts
When my husband proposed to me, he wanted to surprise me with the timing of it since I already knew he had the ring. He came home that day with his face as white as a ghost and was so dizzy he had to sit the minute he walked in the door...it was obvious to me what he'd been up to.

Anyway, we were out of town one weekend for a concert and I was pretty sure that he was going to propose, but I wasn't sure since he'd had the ring for a while at this point and I thought a few times it was going to be "the time." It was the last day of our trip and we went out to dinner at a pretty nice restaurant.

Without me knowing, he gave the ring to the waitress to put on top of a desert that had "Will you marry me?" written on it in chocolate syrup. So there we were sitting at our table, and I was ready to leave. My then-boyfriend was kind of stalling, but since we hadn't ordered dessert I figured once again it wasn't going to happen that night.

A few minutes later I see our waitress bring out a dessert and even though I had resigned myself to the idea that it wasn't my night, I had hope. My hope was quickly dashed when she placed the dessert down in front of a girl at a table nearby. Her eyes lit up as she voiced the words, "Really? Yes of course I'll marry you!!!"

I was green with envy and more jealous than words could describe...that was until her boyfriend grabbed the desert, flipped it around, and read what was written on it with chocolate.

The next words out of his mouth were, "What? I didn't buy you a ring."

At that point I knew...that ring was for me. My husband freaked out because the ring cost a pretty penny, and his romantic proposal was ruined, at least in his eyes. Long story short, the waitress apologized to both the other couple and us.

My husband asked if I wanted him to wait for another time to propose, but there was no way I wanted to wait. At that point he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him, to which I obviously replied yes.

I was just happy to have my ring and happy to be engaged to the man I love, even if the proposal went a little awry. I wish I could have been a fly on the wall of the other couple's home that night!
